About me

Caroline sombre polo neck dark colour_ed

I'm an award winning writer, campaigner and former psychiatrist based in Surrey. Those things that  are the nuts and bolts of fiction: loss, abandonment and abuse, are the foundations of my lived life. I carry scars, which bleed into everything I write, to try to understand myself and the world I live in.

I'm here to share my experience of raising and grieving my trans daughter, Alice. To humanise her existence and our struggle. To show that neither she, nor I, nor any trans person or ally, are the monsters that some purport us to be. Or that if we are, we are no more likely to be than anyone else.

I'm here to  shine a light into the darkness that mainstream media chooses to cast over trans lives. And to expose the basic lack of care afforded to some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

I am here for my daughter Alice, because she no longer can be.
